If you want to contribute to mami’s f’ing expensive ass burgers.
I don’t know what the hell happened to the local chain known as Jasper’s Giant Burgers. There used to be several locations of this extremely delicious chain, all of which had the same 1990s version of the 1950s diner interior. Blue and white checkerboard floor, vinyl and chrome 360 rotating stools, tabletop jukebox machines, and really great burgers. So, I heard.
The location on Bradshaw near Folsom Blvd had these unique fried potatoes you’d receive in lieu of french fries. They’d take the whole potato and mandolined it into thin slices, you’d end up with non-uniformed whole slices of fried potato. Only that location did it, until they didn’t.
There was a Jasper’s inside the long-demolished Florin Center Mall, a few doors down from FootAction, where I worked at the time. I never ordered their burgers, instead opting to chomp down on chicken strips. Which I ordered when we visited the last remaining Jasper’s last week.
I could not find any information on the chain’s history. All I could come up with is the current owner’s business information. A nice Korean family, who was busier than hell only an hour after opening! They were far too busy to tolerate the likes of me asking pedantic questions. I ordered the aforementioned chicken strips for myself and a double bacon cheeseburger for Mami.

Good news: the foot was hot. Remember how we talked about the dislike of cold or room temperature food that is supposed to be served hot? Room temperature is cold, people!
I ordered it without tomatoes, knowing Mami is allergic and wouldn’t eat them. She chastised me anyway because she said it would look better in the photo with tomatoes. All of a sudden she’s doing it for “the ‘gram.” Ok. Two monstrous patties that could have used more seasoning. American cheese that melted into the patties. Semi-crispy bacon (some bits were limp), red onion and a huge leaf of iceberg that Mami tucked back into the burger. We like iceberg until it wilts, then it’s gross.
She took four bites, re-wrapped the burger, finished some of it at home.
Mami’s Rating: “Muy Bueno.”
Next week in Where did Mami Eat?: 1/3 LB Giant Burger in San Leandro, CA.
